The genealogy of the Meyer-Huber-Schissel families is a long and interesting history dating back to 1835 and 1793.

Peter Meyer Sr. was born in 1821 near Frankfort, Germany. Peter and his brother John came to the United

States as teenagers through Ellis Island, New York. They settled in Pennsylvania, as did many others after coming to the United States.

Here Peter met Barbara Schmitt who was born in Pittinger, Germany. They were married 19 Jun 1849 in Butler, PA. They then joined friends who were planning to make their home in “beautiful Iowa" which they had heard so much about.
